Tampa Bay Hospitals & Medicare: Who Takes What, and What to Check for 2027

From each hospital system's own insurance pages. Last checked October 7, 2026. For 2027, confirm in each plan's 2027 provider directory.

A key Medicare question in Tampa Bay isn't about premiums - it's "can I keep my hospital and my doctors?" Medicare Advantage plans use networks, networks are contracts, and contracts change - sometimes mid-year. Original Medicare has no network, and a Medicare Supplement plan generally doesn't add one (Medicare SELECT plans are the exception).

Below is what we found on the region's four major hospital systems' own insurance pages when we checked on October 7, 2026. These are not 2027 network decisions, so confirm your hospital and doctors in each plan's 2027 provider directory. For 2027 dates and what changed in Florida, see 2027 Medicare Open Enrollment in Tampa Bay. No plan is recommended or endorsed here - these are participation facts to bring to your own review.

Moffitt Cancer Center

An NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Tampa. For many families, keeping access to Moffitt is a key network question.

Moffitt reports two Medicare Advantage network exits since December 2025.
  • Moffitt's notice says that, effective July 1, 2026, Moffitt became out of network for Humana Medicare Advantage PPO and HMO plans. Moffitt says this does not apply to Original Medicare with Humana Medigap coverage.
  • Moffitt's notice says that, effective December 1, 2025, Moffitt became out of network for Aetna Medicare Advantage PPO and HMO plans. The notice still said so when we checked.
  • For 2027, look for Moffitt in each plan's 2027 provider directory before you enroll.
  • Accepts Original Medicare. Moffitt says most Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans are accepted, but some Medicare SELECT supplements may exclude Moffitt's providers.

Tampa General Hospital

An academic health system based in Tampa.

Some Medicare Advantage carriers on the list show end dates in late 2026.
  • Tampa General publishes a long Medicare Advantage acceptance list. When we checked, some carriers on the list had end dates in late 2026, so check the date shown next to your plan's carrier.
  • States plainly: “We accept all Medicare Supplement plans.”

AdventHealth (West Florida)

Hospitals across the northern half of Tampa Bay, including Tampa, Wesley Chapel, Zephyrhills, Carrollwood, and Dade City.

Check the list for the specific AdventHealth hospital you use.
  • Check the accepted-plans list for the specific AdventHealth hospital you use. The link below is for AdventHealth Tampa.
  • Then confirm the hospital and your doctors in your plan's 2027 provider directory before you enroll.

BayCare Health System

A hospital system that includes St. Joseph's, St. Anthony's, Morton Plant, Mease, and more across Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, and Polk. BayCare also sells its own Medicare Advantage plans.

Doctors in BayCare facilities may not take the same plans as the hospitals.
  • BayCare's published list covers its hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, and outpatient imaging centers, and BayCare says to contact your insurer to verify coverage.
  • States: “We accept all Medicare Supplemental plans.”
  • BayCare notes that physicians practicing inside BayCare facilities may not accept the same plans as the hospitals and can bill separately.

Common questions

Can a Medicare Advantage plan drop my hospital in the middle of the year?

Yes. Networks are contracts between the plan and the hospital, and contracts can end mid-year. Tampa Bay saw this recently: Moffitt Cancer Center's notice says Moffitt became out of network for Humana Medicare Advantage PPO and HMO plans effective July 1, 2026. Plans must notify affected members, and some situations qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

Does a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan restrict which Tampa Bay hospitals I can use?

Usually not. A Medigap plan works alongside Original Medicare, and with Original Medicare you can use any doctor or hospital in the U.S. that takes Medicare. The exception is a Medicare SELECT policy, a type of Medigap plan that may require you to use certain hospitals and, in some cases, doctors to get full benefits. On their insurance pages, Moffitt, Tampa General, and BayCare each list Original Medicare. Tampa General and BayCare each say they accept all Medicare Supplement plans, and Moffitt says it accepts most.

What should I do if my hospital leaves my plan's network?

First, call your plan and ask about continuity-of-care protections, especially if you are in active treatment - get the answer in writing. Second, ask whether your situation qualifies for a Special Enrollment Period; not every network change qualifies, and rules are situation-specific. Third, plan your Annual Enrollment Period review (October 15 to December 7, 2026, for coverage that starts January 1, 2027) around the hospitals and doctors you actually use.

Which Medicare Advantage plans work at all four major Tampa Bay hospital systems?

There isn't one simple list, because each hospital system's list changes and plan products differ. When we checked on October 7, 2026, Moffitt's in-network Medicare Advantage list was short, and Tampa General's list showed end dates in late 2026 for some carriers. For 2027, check each hospital's current list, then confirm the hospital and your doctors in the plan's 2027 provider directory. A hospital accepting a carrier doesn't mean every doctor or plan product is in network.

How do I check whether my doctors and hospital are covered before I enroll?

Check the plan's provider directory for each doctor and facility you use, confirm with the hospital's insurance office, and confirm with the doctor's office directly - directories can lag reality. AdviseCare does this legwork as part of every no-cost plan review: doctors first, prescriptions second, then the plan.

Not sure if your plan still covers your hospital?

A licensed AdviseCare advisor will check your doctors, hospitals, and prescriptions against your current plan and explain your options in plain English. No cost, no obligation, no pressure.

Network facts on this page were taken from the hospital systems' own insurance pages on October 7, 2026 and can change at any time. They are not 2027 network decisions; check each plan's 2027 provider directory. Hospital acceptance of a carrier does not mean that a specific plan product, doctor, or service is in network. Always verify directly with the plan and the provider before enrolling or scheduling care. This page is educational and does not recommend or endorse any plan.
